Examines the processes, institutions, and decision-making that shape a criminal case from prosecution through sentencing, corrections, and reentry. Students explore the roles and responsibilities of justice professionals, the exercise of discretion, and the ways decisions at one stage affect individuals, organizations, and other parts of the criminal justice system. Through cases and applied activities, students evaluate contemporary challenges and consider how law, policy, evidence, and professional judgment influence justice outcomes.
